Creatively Choosing Joy, You Can See, Hear, and Experience!

Janice K. Purnell is a published author, editor, speaker, and artist based near South Bend, Indiana. She serves church and women’s groups with encouraging messages and creative experiences like paint-and-sip and vision boards. She also offers face painting for events and creates original paintings and unique wall quilts.

Raised in a small military town in central Indiana, Janice was the only sister of five brothers and the only daughter of John and Janie Purnell. She discovered her love for writing and painting early. She is the proud mother of five adult children and seven “Jana babies.” She served two tours in the United States Air Force, later lived in Florida, and eventually returned to Indiana, where she established her art studio and stepped back into creating after a 30-year hiatus.
Today, she shares joy through many bookable creative paths.
- Artful Media Joy – (acrylic canvas paintings)
- Face Painting (birthday parties, festivals & events)
- Quilting Joy ( with her legacy wall quilts)
- Publishing Joy (She is an author and she provides editor and writer services)
- Joyful Events (book speaking, paint & sip, vision board parties)
Her artwork often celebrates the beauty, strength, and everyday life of African American culture—capturing body shapes, movement, and moments not always reflected in the media. Her goal is simple: to communicate joy. If viewers find themselves gently smiling as they take in her work, then she has done what she came to do.
Let’s create something meaningful together.
